kids program (titans)
Here at NLKB, our kids program is aimed at developing physical fitness, confidence, respect, discipline, integrity, and perseverance in children, as well as teaching them skills and techniques to defend themselves against a bully or attacker. Developed to combat bullying, our Kids Self Defense Program utilizes Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, along with simple Kickboxing techniques, in order to give students the most effective means of defending themselves against those who might do them harm. We want to build future citizens who are strong, confident, and of the highest moral caliber, to ensure that the world is left in the best and most careful hands possible. Our Students will learn lessons and skills that will follow them their entire lives and give them the ability to face any and all challenges that come their way. Known as Titans, the kids program is broken up into two different categories, based on age:
- Little Titans (Ages 5 to 9) - The younger division of the children's program, Little Titans learn simple combative techniques such as punches, kicks, blocks, takedowns and ground control, in order to defend themselves against bullies on the playground, at the park, or in the culdesac. Little Titans will also learn to speak when spoken to, follow directions when they are given, and to show respect to their peers and seniors alike. Furthermore, as Little Titans grow into big Titans, they will begin to assist in the development of their training partners, building their confidence and self-esteem - as they see their own growth and their ability to take part in the growth in others.
- Titans (Ages 10 to 15) - Also known as the Teen group, Titans will learn more advanced self defense, in comparison to Little Titans, with even more emphasis placed on grappling and takedowns. With just as much emphasis placed on combating bullying, Titans will be taught basic techniques of Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Kickboxing and will learn to utilize technique over strength and size, to prepare them to face any type of adversary in a self defense situation, as well as to prepare them for the transition into the adult classes. Older Titans, who have been training for an appropriate amount of time, may also receive approval to take part in adult classes, in addition to Kid's classes; however, this is only to be decided by the instructor and permission must be granted by the instructor. Do not be upset if your child is not permitted to take part in adult programs; this is not a reflection on their aptitude or character, but merely an assessment of their current ability and proficiency (All students will transition into the adult class at some point).
